What Is The Purpose Of A Learning Agreement

An apprenticeship contract is an agreement between a student and the teacher; sometimes the student`s parents are involved. The contract sets concrete learning and/or behavioural objectives for the student, which all parties agree to achieve. The contract also states that if a student becomes a party to an apprenticeship contract, he will be more closely involved in his own education; This means that the learning process becomes more self-directed. The responsibility given to the student through his or her participation in the contractual process and decisions concerning his or her own education often increases his or her internal motivation. The contract gives the student goals other than just working for grades; It allows the student to obtain satisfaction by achieving his goals. Many students respond well to this technique because they appreciate their teacher`s efforts to recognize and take into account their individual needs.
